Summer in northeast Ohio is a gift. Picture lake breezes, gentle humidity, and a lush landscape of verdant green and prolific hydrangeas. We want to sit with this a bit, because this is our happy place! Although we love all of the seasons, this one is our free pass to relax and enjoy!
The weeks of late-June through mid-August are a beautiful mix of nurturing the container garden, trips to our local farmers market, boating afternoons, and backyard barbecues. There are also cooler days when the windows are open wide, and the birdsong wakes us at dawn.
The nights are filled with crackling logs in the outdoor fireplace, glasses of red wine, a favorite candle that reminds us of these special summer days, and an outdoor movie. Overhead is a sky full of stars, with lightening bugs illuminating the landscape. The best part is the people we’re sharing these moments with.
As a rule I’m a pretty scheduled person. Yet, the lessons of a perfect summer are to let go of that, and be present. Jump in the water, eat something simple later, drink lots of crisp rose’, be silly, and just breathe.
Dear Summer,
Please hang around for a bit. I’m so happy about your longer days and cozy nights. It’s refreshing to have a new normal for a few fleeting months. You encourage us to be outdoors - walking, biking, boating, swimming, and enjoying backyards and each other.
Thank you for less layers, fresh local produce, and sun-kissed cheeks. I love living the summertime dream.
Always,
Kim
